European Christmas Tree 2025 : description for schools

Cercle CECI

The « European Christmas Tree » operation – European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange – has been organized for twenty years.
Last year, 403 schools involving 33,000 students from 22 countries took part in this project, which is rich in innovative learning and easy to implement.
This European-scale work consists in connecting classes of pupils aged 3 to 12 for correspondence around Christmas traditions.

Description

It is a cultural project based on an exchange of self-made Christmas decorations between primary school pupils across Europe. They also present the Christmas traditions in their region or country.
Participating schools are networked within groups of 20 to 25 schools. Thus, each school sends out and receives an equal number of items, and then decorates its own Christmas tree.

Benefits

An authentic situation for learning the geography of our continent, but also for discovering European culture through its similarities and particularities. Digital and language skills, including foreign languages are also developed.

Objectives

Students acquire knowledge about other European countries through creative activities.
It is also an opportunity for everyone to better understand their own culture by making decorations and communicating about their traditions, and to discover how Christmas is celebrated in neighbouring countries.

In Practice

As the submission deadline is in mid-November, each teacher has full flexibility to carry out the project.
Experience shows that links are created between schools, and have sometimes led to partnerships.

A registration form will be available at the end of August.
