1Description

What is The European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange ?

  • A cultural exchange project where primary schoolchildren make Christmas tree decorations to send to other schools across Europe.
  • A concrete situation for the pupils to learn about the geography of our continent and discover cultural differences and similarities.
  • Development of ICT and foreign language skills.

2Aims for the pupils

  • Acquire some knowledge on European countries through creative activities.
  • Develop the feeling of belonging to a European community.
  • Get to know his/her own culture better while creating decorations and communicating on his/her traditions as well as discovering how Christmas is celebrated in neighbouring countries.

3What you need to do

> For each of the 21 partner schools in your group, prepare

  • a package that includes one (or more) decoration(s) with your country’s name written on the back ;
  • a small explanatory booklet about your environment and Christmas traditions ;
  • wishes for 2027.

Choose Christmas decorations that are symbolic of your region or country. They can be made from all kinds of materials (paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, wire, string, etc.), in all sizes as well, keeping in mind that they must be sent by postal mail (not too fragile to be received intact, not too heavy to limit the cost).

> Decorate your own Christmas tree with the received decorations.

> Send a photo of your decorated tree to CECI

* Following a suggestion from a school last year, the CECI would be happy to create its own tree with all your decorations for display in a public place. Consequently, could you send us a decoration ?
